Blessed Fulton J. Sheen, pray for us!

Today is the Beatification of Blessed Fulton J. Sheen, one of the most well known Catholic communicator and preacher of the 20th century. When he was ordained a priest, he made a promise to spend a Holy Hour every day with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He called it his “Hour of Power”. For almost sixty years, throughout his teaching, writing, missionary work, radio and television, he kept that promise every day. Consider making that promise your own. Visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament daily or weekly. Sit in His Presence and talk with Him as you talk with a friend. He will pour out His love and grace upon you. Open the door of your heart to Him. Come away and rest a while. He is waiting for you.

Ten years ago, Fulton Sheen touched my heart. During Lent 2016, a small group of women were watching talks by Venerable Fulton J. Sheen. During one of his talks. titled, Confession. he prophetically said: "Just think how many mentally disturbed women we are going to have in the United States...when the guilt of abortion begins to attack the mind and soul...Years from now, the guilt will come out in a peculiar way, though at present there may not be any." We were so struck by his words and we thought about how abortion effects so many, not only the women. Today the problem of abortion seems insurmountable. As we prayed about this, we thought of Saint Therese of Lisieux and the simplicity and power of her "Little Way" which is the Love and Mercy of God.

We sought spiritual direction from Fr. Greg Staab, OMV. After prayerful reflection, he said we needed a prayer and it must include the Hail Mary. We wrote a simple prayer which is the essence of the Apostolate. The Kiss of Mercy Prayer Apostolate for Healing from Abortion began ten years ago on March 19, 2016, the Feast Day of the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, during the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. An imprimatur was received on the Kiss of Mercy Prayer on January 25, 2017.

Blessed Fulton Sheen is the Patron of the Unborn and the Pro-Life movement. The miracle surrounding his intercession, which was the cause of his Beatification today, was a baby who was born with no pulse or heartbeat, The family had been praying to Fulton Sheen and continued imploring his intercession. After 61 minutes, a pulse and his heart began beating. The baby is now a teenager who carried Blessed Fulton Sheen’s relic to the altar today. There is a beautiful connection between Blessed Fulton J. Sheen’s daily 60 minute Holy Hour and the miracle of the baby coming to life after 61 minutes.
